Naau Cafe sits tucked away on Russell Street, offering a focused, no-fuss stop for fans of matcha and cleverly crafted iced coffee blends. It’s the kind of small, tight space where locals swing by mostly for pick-up rather than lingering—there’s little room to hang around inside, which fits its grab-and-go rhythm right in the heart of Melbourne’s busy CBD.

The cafe’s specialty revolves around iced matcha-based drinks with twists that stand out from the usual offerings. Think raspberry matcha latte, hojicha peanut cream, and their distinctively nutty latte peanut cream—these drinks catch attention for bringing balanced layers of flavour rather than just sweetness. Frequent visitors mention how the raspberry’s tartness cuts through the matcha’s earthiness nicely, making it a pairing that feels considered rather than gimmicky. Those who veer towards coffee will find straightforward options like long blacks and double espressos, but the spotlight here is definitely on the more inventive cold drinks.

This venue draws a crowd who appreciates finely tuned tea and coffee drinks and values efficiency—it’s quick service without the waiting times common in busier city spots. The staff have earned a casual sort of local recognition, not just for their barista skills but the effortless style they bring to the place.

If you’re passing through during lunchtime or early afternoon, it’s an ideal moment to pop in for a refreshingly different caffeine hit. The vibe is succinct and functional rather than cozy, so it suits those on a tight schedule or anyone who wants a quality matcha fix without fuss. Naau fits neatly into Melbourne’s broader coffee culture by offering a tightly curated menu that caters equally well to matcha enthusiasts and iced coffee fans looking for something a little more distinctive.

  • Best for: Matcha lovers and iced coffee drinkers after uniquely-flavoured, cold brews
  • Who will enjoy it: Office workers, shoppers, and locals seeking a quick yet interesting coffee break
  • When to visit: Busy weekday afternoons when you need a caffeine pick-me-up without a wait
  • Atmosphere: Compact, stylish, and efficient—designed for takeaway rather than lounging

I discovered Naau Cafe through TikTok, where it was praised for having the best matcha in Melbourne. They’re known for their raspberry matcha latte, matcha latte with peanut butter cream, and hojicha latte with peanut butter cream. I ordered the matcha latte and hojicha latte with peanut butter cream, and they did not disappoint. The matcha latte had a rich, earthy depth with a smooth, creamy texture, perfectly balanced between bitterness and natural sweetness. The hojicha latte had a toasty, nutty aroma, with deep roasted tea flavors that paired beautifully with the velvety, slightly salty peanut butter cream, adding a unique, indulgent twist. They offer soy milk and oat milk as alternatives, and the drinks are reasonably priced. Overall, a must-try for matcha and hojicha lovers! I came back and tried Rasberry matcha latte, it was not sour as I expected with a hint of rasberry. I would say good to try.

I definitely prefer matcha raspberry over the popular strawberry combo. The tart of raspberry balances really well with the savoury bitterness of matcha. I think cranberry would work even better! Takeaway only.

Ive been here so many freaking times and its a banger each time. The drinks are soso good and are wayy cheaper than other places and theres barley any wait time. Shout out to the two girls that I always see working with impeccable fashion cause their drinks hits the hardest. I would say i dont really like the flavour onens cause I can't really taste the matcha but that could be others favourite cause I always like the original best

If you’re after an iced matcha or hojicha then this is a cafe you have to try. And if you have a sweet tooth and you’re wanting to try something different, then I recommend adding peanut cream to your drink. Naau is definitely one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne, I just wish they had indoor seating and a larger variety of pastries, if they did, then they’d be so busy!
